With thanks to presenting partner WALGA

There are times when we need to go to our happy places. And we are fortunate, in difficult times, to have so many happy places in Western Australia to go to.

And we’ll be celebrating them in our HAPPY PLACES WA Dinner on October 14.

At this gala event, the best of WA will come together.

There are times when we need to go to our happy places.

And we are fortunate, in difficult times, to have so many happy places in Western Australia to go to.

And we’ll be celebrating them in our HAPPY PLACES WA Dinner on October 14.

At this gala event, the best of WA will come together.

A series of courses will be served, inspired by and using WA produce.

They will be accompanied by WA wines and beers.

I will add story, and highly respected composer and musician Steve Richter will bring the character of this remote, rare, remarkable place alive through sound.

Sometimes I can close my eyes and conjure up a happy place. Riddell Beach at Broome on a warm evening; nestled behind a huge granite boulder near Albany; sliding into turquoise water in a bay at Rottnest; waking on a silent morning in the western deserts; walking beside the mirror-still Swan River.

And sometimes I open my eyes, and I am actually there …

not in a happy place in my head, but physically in my happiest place on Earth, here in Western Australia.

HAPPY PLACES WA Dinner

CHEF COSTA SIMATOS will select and work with some of WA’s best produce to produce a unique menu. It will reflect the happy place that many of the State’s growers and producers are in — and also Chef Costa’s happy place, in being able to produce dishes that give a taste of our wonderful State.

WRITER STEPHEN SCOURFIELD will reflect up on his own happy places in WA. He will write scripted word pieces to be performed live before each course. They will reflect not only the particular geography of WA, but the human reaction to this ancient and precious landscape, with its glistening modern face.

MUSICIAN STEVE RICHTER enthusiastically composes and performs music around the WA story. And he will imbue the evening with soundscapes that reflect the broad horizons, coast and interior of WA. Expect something insightful and memorable.

KEEPING THE STATE RUNNING

Our partner in the evening is the WA Local Government Association.

Local government is grassroots, hands-on, keeping the State running. (Helping to keep it a Happy Place.)

WALGA advocates on behalf of 139 WA local governments. It is not a government department or agency.

It’s vision is that local governments will be built on good governance, autonomy, local leadership, democracy, community engagement and diversity.

And that they will work to provide economically, socially and environmentally sustainable services and infrastructure that meets the needs of their communities.
