See how a guy with six seaplanes, three helicopters, five fast boats and four houseboat is creating the ultimate Kimberley adventure.

The awesome experience that is Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures will this season introduce new tours catering for those who want to spend several nights at the company’s unique floating accommodation at Horizontal Falls, as well as a 24-hour experience that packs the best of the ultimate adventure into a day.

Located at Talbot Bay in the Buccaneer Archipelago, Horizontal Falls is one of the great natural wonders of the world and the company’s main point of operation.

Owner Troy Thomas must surely be the envy of every child and man-child for that matter with the number of big-boy toys under his control. Six Cessna Caravans, three helicopters, five fast boats and four houseboats.

But it’s not all games. Troy, after starting out with his own Broome fishing charter at 18 years old, has moulded Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures into a business thrilling tens of thousands of visitors a year. It was this year selected as one of the best tourism experiences in the country taking out the gold gong for adventure tourism at the Australian Tourism Awards.

Troy puts the awards down to the multi-faceted experience offered, from the seaplanes that take visitors on a low scenic flight to and from Horizontal Falls, the fast boats through the tidal phenomenon, helicopter flights, and the luxury houseboats for stays at the falls (it also took out a bronze award for unique accommodation).

Troy’s faith in the business and professionalism are evident when we meet him at the company’s new hangar. The new premises allows the company to do its own maintenance, catering, laundry and more, ensuring a smooth operation in a challenging and remote environment.

On top of existing tours, this season the new four-night Ultimate Kimberley Cruise Adventure will use a combination of seaplane, houseboat, fishing and long-range expedition vessel and helicopter to allow guests to experience, explore and reach isolated parts of the Kimberley.

The new Horizontal Falls 24-hour Stay allows guests to see both incoming and outgoing tides of the Horizontal Falls, stay overnight in a houseboat and experience some of the highlights of the four-day tour.
