Holidaymakers can continue to enjoy discounts on visits to Rottnest Island, with the State Government extending its Rotto from Day to Dusk promotion until the end of February.

Designed to encourage people to arrive later and stay longer into the evening on Rottnest, the promotion provides free admittance for children and half-price admission for adults arriving on the island after 12pm.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said the promotion had given visitation numbers "a spark", with more than 7000 people taking advantage of the discounts in January.

"Extending Rotto from Day to Dusk supports the ongoing activation of Rottnest Island as an exciting, value-for-money destination," he said.

The admission fee is usually $18 for adult day visitors and $6.50 for kids, and is paid by most visitors as part of their ferry fare. The discount applies to daytrippers arriving by ferry and by private or chartered boat.

When he launched the promotion in December, Mr Papalia pointed out that "there are now more ferry seats and travel times available to Rottnest than ever before".

The launch of a new ferry service from Fremantle by Sealink last year has led to extended timetables and discounts for people heading to Rotto, including free ferry fares for WA children via the Rottnest Express Quokka Club.
