Young Travel Writer: Canon's little Powershot camera can do just about everything

Ten finalists in our Young Travel Writer competition which each receive a Canon SX60 HS - a terrific "all-rounder" of a camera that was used to take the accompanying photos.

The Canon SX60 HS is, quite simply, our most recommended “do everything” travel camera.

Palm sized, with an extraordinary 65x optical superzoom lens equivalent to 21-1365mm, a flip-out vario screen, an electronic viewfinder and good video capacity — well, it feels like a whole camera kit in one body. It sells at Camera Electronic for $525.

We particularly like it as it’s a “real” 16MP camera with the good Digic 6 image processor.

Canon Australia explains that the built-in wi-fi allows wireless transfer to a computer or your iOS or Android device via the Canon mobile app, which is free to download. “Through the app, you can send images directly to social networking sites such as Facebook and NFC allows for one-touch connection to select smartphones or tablets,” it says.
