Australia and the Pacific Uluru & Kata Tjuta, Camel Cup Travel Club Tour - May 28-30

Boots in the dust, surrounded by the big horizon, under a canopy of blue that gives way to a night full of stars.

For, as I write, the borders to all parts of Australia are open, and WA’s border with the Northern Territory has been the most consistent of all, partly due to the NT’s different handling of international arrivals. They are isolated at a remote facility at Hunter Creek, rather than in often-shared city hotels, as elsewhere in Australia.

As regular readers may remember, I’ve been in the Red Centre recently. And I have a confession to make. I have just hitched a ride on a Travel Club Tour back to Uluru and Kata Tjuta, on May 28, 29 and 30. The Camel Cup is being run at Uluru, and my colleague Mogens Johansen is already on the trip, bringing his photographic experience and excellence to those who want to sharpen their image making.

But I have now joined the journey, too, mainly to see Uluru again and walk at Kata Tjuta, and to take the opportunity to explain more about the Red Centre to our guests.

For arriving at Uluru (however many times I do it), is never, ever disappointing.

He’s very familiar with the Barossa, Kangaroo Islands, Murray Princess and the route on the Murray River, having recently been there writing for the Travel supplement.

Mogens will accompany guests throughout the trip, making this a chance to travel alongside a member of our experienced team, and an opportunity to learn photography from a professional with 40 years’ experience.

Abrolhos Voyage of Discovery

An exclusive Travel Club Tour with Kalbarri Skywalk and Geraldton Reinvented

From gorges to coast to the islands offshore, we explore an amazing slice of WA on land and sea. And we do it in the company of Travel Editor Stephen Scourfield, who will peel back its layers to reveal the region’s remarkable stories.

We start on the land, with some huge landmarks — the Pinnacles, Pink Lake and the new Skywalk in Kalbarri.

We’ll see reinvented Geraldton in a new light, and prepare ourselves to move out into the ocean.

In the Abrolhos Islands, we fully explore the environments and the stories of the Southern, Easter and the Wallabi groups, where the Batavia shipwreck story is set.

Stephen brings to this journey the insights of a writer and photographer steeped in the region, and the stories of yesterday and today.
