West Travel Club Tour, in partnership with Imagine Holidays

This is our year for immersing ourselves in our continent. For delving deeper.

Experiencing more.

For stepping out, wide-eyed; learning it with a new appreciation.

And to do this, I’m going to bring travellers with me, here, to the Heart of Australia.

It is a one-off tour in October which I have no plans to repeat. (We have recently put on a second departure for other tours because they’ve sold out so quickly, but not with this one.)

I’ve worked with trusted friends and partners Imagine Holidays to develop a trip to stimulate and educate — and with a bit of luxury and some relaxation thrown in, of course.

Imagine’s managing director for Australasia, Alex Sirman, and national product manager Lauren Hanby have personally worked with me to develop a memorable journey. We’re friends as well as travel industry colleagues, so it’s been a pleasure refining and adding to the trip, to make it as special as any big overseas journey.

It will be pretty memorable dive into the Red Centre.

We will come to understand more of the contemporary and Indigenous cultural story of Alice Springs. We’ll see some brilliant Aboriginal art.

We’ll walk in Kings Canyon and see Uluru at both sunrise and sunset, showing its many colours.

We’ll visit Kata Tjuta, and hear the stories of the Ananju people.

We’ll have stayed for two nights in Alice Springs, one night at Kings Canyon and three at Yulara, near Uluru.

And through it all, while travelling and staying in comfort, I will add story and narrative — a deeper feel and view of the Heart of Australia.

Australia and the Pacific Uluru & Kata Tjuta, Camel Cup Travel Club Tour - May 28-30 **SOLD OUT**

West Travel Club Tour, in partnership with Holidays of Australia and the World

Boots in the dust, surrounded by the big horizon, under a canopy of blue that gives way to a night full of stars.

For, as I write, the borders to all parts of Australia are open, and WA’s border with the Northern Territory has been the most consistent of all, partly due to the NT’s different handling of international arrivals. They are isolated at a remote facility at Hunter Creek, rather than in often-shared city hotels, as elsewhere in Australia.

As regular readers may remember, I’ve been in the Red Centre recently. And I have a confession to make. I have just hitched a ride on a Travel Club Tour back to Uluru and Kata Tjuta, on May 28, 29 and 30. The Camel Cup is being run at Uluru, and my colleague Mogens Johansen is already on the trip, bringing his photographic experience and excellence to those who want to sharpen their image making.

But I have now joined the journey, too, mainly to see Uluru again and walk at Kata Tjuta, and to take the opportunity to explain more about the Red Centre to our guests.

For arriving at Uluru (however many times I do it), is never, ever disappointing.
