West Travel Club Tour, in partnership with Viking Cruises
From Norway, travel to the end of the North Sea and beyond to unlock mysteries of the far north and experience nature at its most magnificent. Contrast the pleasant urban setting of Alesund with the robust beauty of Geiranger's fjord landscape. Meet the people who thrive on the water's edge of the Faroe archipelago, and encounter polar foxes, terns, elder ducks and members of the whale family in Iceland's majestic, distant north.
From Bergen in Norway we sail west to Reykjavik in Iceland. And that is an incredible journey, to the end of the North Sea and beyond.
We start at Bergen, with its Bryggen wharf, still has the feel of a fishing village. And it is at the heart of our Viking story, as we board Viking Jupiter, ready to explore.
From there, we sail to Flam, set in the steep sided Aurlandsfjord, and on to Alesend. A sort of art nouveau complex, Alesund is spread over four islands.
We will call at Geiranger, the gateway to many of coastal Norway’s treasures. In the deep Geirangerfjord, Geiranger has been certified as a Sustainable Destination, a seal of approval given to destinations that work systematically to reduce any negative impact of tourism. It is surrounded by majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation.
We then follow the Viking longship route across the North Sea, to Torshavn in the Faroe Islands, with its dramatic mountains and fjords.
We’ll meet people who thrive on the water’s edge of the Faroe archipelago.
Then we sail the Norwegian Sea to Seydisfjordur in Iceland — a place founded by Vikings. Seydisfjkordur has colorful wooden buildings, cafes, handicrafts, mountainous scenery, and a vibrant atmosphere.
From there, we sail on to Reykjavik, settled by Vikings. It is believed to be place with the first permanent settlement in Iceland and is the world’s most northern capital city. It’s a colourful and welcoming place with great coffee houses and restaurants and a busy arts scene. Oh, and small hot dog stands called “Bæjarins bestu”. Our travellers have to try an Icelandic hot dog (!)
The cruise is from July 16 to 28, 2023.
It is from $8845 per person (cruise only) — a saving of $650 per person or a full $1300 per couple.
Our friends at Viking can arrange extra time in both Bergen and Reykjavik (and beyond).
We offer five options: Bergen; Oslo and Scenic Train; The best of Norway and Scenic Train; Greenland: Arctic Landscapes; and Seascapes, Reykjavik.
For both Travel Club Tours, guests have the option of booking a package, flying with Finnair. And they have added some nice additions for our guests.
